MADATZ – HABONIM DROR’S LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM AT CAMP MIRIAM

Madatz is specifically geared towards those people entering their last year of high school.  This unique 7-week program is designed to prepare young adults to become future Jewish role models.  As part of a close knit team, living among their peers, the Madatz will acquire skills and develop techniques to help them better interact with both younger campers and staff members.  The program is designed to enhance communication skills, develop programming ideas, learn about age appropriate development and tap into the unique strengths of each participant. The program will allow time for creativity, an overnight hike, sports, personal growth and development as well as creating friendships to last a lifetime.

Studies have shown that young people who complete programs of this type are more likely to take leadership roles as adults.

What is the structure of the Madatz program?  The participants arrive at camp before the other campers so that they have the opportunity to meet the staff and get settled in.  During first session they will receive leadership training in the theoretical, help the staff run camp-wide activities, such as evening programs, and will each be part of the staff of a certain age group.  They will run activities specifically for that age group at different times during the week, with the regular staff and on their own.  During second session they will also sleep with the age group they are assigned to.  They will stay a couple days after camp in order to debrief with the staff and as a group.

Two experienced Madrichim (counselors) plan the program and support the Madatznikim as they develop their kvutza (group) and practice their leadership skills on themselves and their assigned chanichim (campers).
